GETTYSBURG Your tour will begin with a visit to historic Gettysburg Pennsylvania. We will visit the Museum and the Cyclorama to see the massive Battle of Gettysburg. Next is the Battlefield Tour, with over 1,400 monuments and markers that dot the landscape. Our travels today will take us to beautiful Stockbridge, MA to visit the “Norman Rockwell Museum” America’s favorite illustrator. Rockwell’s studio is filled with his furnishings, mementos, easel, paints and brushes on the lovely grounds overlooking the Berkshire Hills. Our overnight lodging will be in Great Barrington, MA. With lunch at the historic Red Lion Inn in the quaint village of Stockbridge, dating back to 1773.

            

Tuesday, June 12   
We are off to Maine to visit Kennebunkport and drive past the Bush Estate at Walkers Point  along with a visit to Nubble Light. Time in Dock Square for shopping and lunch at one of the many great restaurants. Lobster Roll anyone, or maybe the famous wild blueberry pie. After time to enjoy Dock Square we will head to Portland ME for our one night stay.

             

Wednesday, June 13   
Today we will begin with a tour of Portland, ME  Maine’s largest city, situated on Casco Bay at the beginning of the “Rocky Coast of Maine” see the Wadsworth Longfellow House where he grew up, the busy waterfront and the Casco Bay Islands. A stop at the Portland Head light house the oldest lighthouse in Maine. This is a great picture stop.

Free time for lunch and shopping in Portland’s renovated Old Port District with boutiques, galleries, and restaurants that occupy former warehouses.

        

Thursday, June 14   
Today we begin with a visit to the Camden Hills State Park. Drive to the peak of Mount Battie for sweeping views of Camden village and harbor, and Penobscot Bay and surrounding Islands.
If you have ever dreamed of going on a schooner ride, then your dream has come true. Step aboard the schooner Appledore for a two Hour cruise through Camden Harbor and into Penobscot Bay. Enjoy views of lighthouses, wildlife, islands and the beautiful Maine Coastline. 

Our next stop will be in Rockland, ME to see the Owl’s Head Transportation Museum, where you will see more than 100 mint condition classic and antique airplanes, bicycles, carriages and engines. Depart for Bar Harbor, ME to check into our night lodging the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel a contemporary hotel designed to resemble the Rodick House, one of Bar Harbor’s original grand hotels from the 1800′s. Your hotel is convenient to the shops and restaurants in downtown.

           

Friday, June 15   
Depart on a two hour cruise of Frenchman Bay. Enjoy the coastal Maine scenery as you cruise past waterfront mansions and Acadia National Park. A naturalist will narrate as we search for local wildlife including seals, harbor porpoises, osprey and eagles. Free time for lunch and shopping in Bar Harbor. After lunch we will have a tour of Acadia National Park, tour along Park Loop Drive, see Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, Otter Cliffs and continue to the Summit of Cadillac Mountain for spectacular views.
Tonight we will have a traditional Maine Lobster bake with the lobster, potato, and corn-on-the-cob expertly steamed together in a large steel cooker where you can take pictures. There will be alternate menu selections.

      

Saturday, June 16   
Depart for Freeport, ME with free time to visit the home of LL Bean and factory outlet shops. Now onto Framingham, MA for our overnights lodging. Tonight we will have the fortune of taking in a live performance of the “Boston Pops Orchestra in downtown Boston.

     

Sunday, June 17   
Today we will depart for Corning, NY for a one night stay.

          

Monday, June 18
Today we will visit the Corning Glass Museum, it is outstanding with a exhibits, hands on glass blowing, and a market place for all those nice Corning products. Arrival home this evening with fond memories and new found friends.

JUNE 22 “ARETHA FRANKLIN” At the Fox Theatre in Detroit.

Aretha Franklin

The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, will perform at Detroit’s historic Fox Theatre on Friday, June 22 at 8 p.m.

JUNE 27 “THE TITANIC ARTIFACT EXHIBITION” At the Henry Ford Museum.

   

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition 
 
On April 15, 1912, Titanic, the world’s largest Ship, sank after colliding with an iceberg, claiming more than 1,500 lives. During the 100th anniversary of the sinking, The Henry Ford will host the largest touring Exhibition of Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, in Henry Ford Museum, March 31 through September 30, 2012.This Exhibition, 10,000 square feet in size, features more than 300 artifacts – 250 of which have never been displayed in Michigan. In addition, visitors will walk through extensive room re-creations, be able to get their photos taken near the full-scale replica of the Grand Staircase, as well as learn about passengers on board who had local ties to Michigan.

Moving through this newly redesigned and expanded Exhibition, visitors will be taken back in time to 1912 and “travel” through the life of the Titanic — from the ship’s construction, to its on-board passengers, its ill-fated voyage, to the amazing artifact rescue efforts that involved divers returning to the sunken ship in recent years.

The Diamond Jack was formerly named the “Emerald Isle”. The miniship was built in 1955 for the Beaver Island Ferry Company on Lake Michigan. Then, in 1962, became a Mackinac Island Ferry for the Arnold Line Ferry Company until 1982 when she went to Milwaukee as a charter boat. Diamond Jack’s River Tours bought the ship in 1991 and renamed her “Diamond Jack”, which is primarily used for our 2 hour narrated Detroit River tours, school groups, group tours, and private charters.

All aboard the Conway Scenic Notch Train for a two hour ride to Crawford Notch, along steep ravines, panoramic mountain vistas and across the famed Frankenstein trestle and Willey Brook Bridge.

In the Library’s Museum you can explore exhibits about the lives of the Roosevelt’s, the Great Depression, the New Deal and World War II.

Dinner this evening will have an outstanding view of the Hudson River. A meal that you won’t soon forget.

We will tour the Vanderbilt Mansion in terms of architecture, interiors, mechanical systems, road systems and landscape, is a remarkably complete example of a gilded-age country place, illustrating the political, economic, social, cultural, and demographic changes that occurred as America industrialized in the years after the Civil War. It was the setting for grand parties, balls, and dinners for New York’s social elite.
 

Lunch today will be at the Culinary Institute of America. What a unique experience. Founded in 1946 the campus in Hyde Park now boasts over 2000 students. This wonderful meal will be served by students during their externship.

Tonight’s lodging Owego New York. Located below the Finger Lakes region. This is a beautiful drive taking us through the Catskill Mountains and park. Have your cameras ready.
